Consular Services in Larissa
Consul and Consular Assistant traveled to the northern Greek city of Larissa on May 11 to provide consular services to local U.S. citizens. Larissa is located at the southern edge of the Thessaloniki Consular District, and is 153 kilometers due south from the Consulate.
2012 Olympic Torch Relay
Ambassador Daniel B. Smith participated in the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on May 10, 2012. Following the lighting of the Olympic Flame in Ancient Olympia, he carried the flame through the nearby town of Lechena.
Holocaust Survivors Honor Victims
Six Holocaust survivors from the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki lit a candle for every million people who perished during the Holocaust years at a memorial event at the Thessaloniki “Monastiriotes” synagogue on Sunday, April 22nd.
Stars Unite Against Human Slavery
U.S. Embassy-sponsored NBA and WNBA players participated in a celebrity basketball game on April 3 in Athens aimed at educating local students about modern day slavery.
