September 2005
September 11 coincided this year with the opening of the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair. On that anniversary, the Ambassador, accompanied by DC Mayor Williams, and the Consul General attended a special mass commemorating the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and hurricane Katrina, presided by the Bishop of Thessaloniki at the church of St. Demetrius, patron saint of the city. The Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, and the Regional Governor of Thessaloniki were in attendance and the Mayor of Thessaloniki also paid tribute to the victims at a City Hall ceremony honoring Mayor Williams.
