Support of Child-Trafficking Victims

Awareness meeting November 01, 2005
American Consulate General Thessaloniki

The American Consulate General organized an awareness meeting on issues concerning trafficking in persons for career diplomats of Balkan countries who serve in Thessaloniki to discuss current matters and progress made in combating the phenomenon in the region.

Dr. Stavros Boufidis, Secretary General and Medical Director of the NGO "Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture and other Forms of Abuse," also director of the Thessaloniki TIP shelter, briefed the participants about the work of the NGO and of the shelter in assisting victims of trafficking. 

Sociologist Liana Hadjigeorgiou briefed the audience about the work of
ARSIS, a Thessaloniki based NGO for the social support of youth (labor exploitation of kids, mainly of Albanian origin).
