U.S. and Greece Cooperate on Renewable Energy in the Balkans
May 27, 2008
The United States and Greece signed a Memorandum of Understanding representing a significant investment in renewable energy and conservation in the member states of the Energy Community of Southeast Europe on May 23.
“I’m very pleased with today’s event because Greece is a very important country in terms of stability in the Balkans,” said U.S. Ambassador Daniel V. Speckhard. “Working together, we have a great opportunity to use the expertise of Greece and some of the technical know-how of the United States to address environmental issues.”
Deputy Assistant Administrator Woody Mefford of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the United States, and Secretary General for International Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation Theodoros Skylakakis for Greece. The work will be carried out by the International Resources Group for the United States and the Center for Renewable Energy Sources for Greece.
