U.S. Ambassador Honors Environmentalists
Athens (September
24, 2008) -- Reinforcing the U.S. commitment to addressing global
environmental issues, Ambassador Daniel V. Speckhard invited leading
Greek researchers to lunch at his residence on September 23. Several
of those present have previously been recognized for their
contributions to the work of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former
U.S. Vice President Al Gore. Among the Greek
organizations represented at the lunch were the National Observatory of
Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Marine
Environment Protection Association, and the Hellenic Society for the
Protection of the Environment and Cultural Heritage.
