Euros Only for Payment of Consular Fees at U.S. Embassy

Athens (December 17, 2001) - As of January 1, 2002, the Consular Section of the United States Embassy in Athens and of the Consulate General in Thessaloniki will accept payment for consular fees only in euros or U.S. dollars.  No third currency will be accepted.

The exchange rate as of January 1 will be 1.2 euros to the dollar.  This rate of exchange will govern all consular fees collected by the Consulates in the twelve countries of the Eurozone.

As of January 1, the following fees will apply: 54 euros for a visa application, 48 euros for adult passport renewal, and 30 euros for renewal of a child's passport.  The fee for replacement of a passport will be 72 euros for adults, 48 for children.

The fee in euros will be recalibrated monthly, based on fluctuations in the new currency's exchange rate with the dollar.
