American Consul Will Visit Hania, Crete June 30 – July 1, 2005

Athens (June 22, 2005) -- The U.S. Embassy announced today that a Consular Officer will visit Hania to provide consular services for American citizen residents.  The U.S. consul will be in Hania on Thursday June 30 and Friday July 1, 2005.   The consul will take passport applications; provide limited notarial services and answer questions on consular matters.  The consul will not take visa applications or answer questions about specific visa cases.  General American Citizen Services issues will be discussed.

All American citizens resident in Crete who currently hold a U.S. passport may apply in person for the renewal or amendment of their passport when the U.S. consul is in Hania.  Residents of Greece, who have lost their passport and do not need to travel immediately, can apply for a replacement passport.  (Anyone with immediate travel plans must appear in person at the Embassy in Athens.)  American citizen parents of children born in Greece may also apply for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad for their children.

Citizens interested in receiving consular services in Hania should contact the Embassy for details on the consul’s exact schedule.  Please call 210-720-2494 or 210-720-2464 between 8:30 and 16:00, Monday through Friday.
