CG Yee Inaugurates USAID Funded Indoor Gym

On November 19, CG Yee inaugurated the new Anatolia College indoor gym, which was largely funded by the American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program of USAID. CG Yee congratulated the school on creating one of finest campuses in Greece and urged students, faculty and administrators to maintain the high standards of academic excellence and community service that justify continued USG and other support. The gym was initially constructed in 1976 with USAID/ASHA assistance, and underwent a major renovation funded by a 2004 ASHA grant. The gym has hosted many athletic and recreational events, some of which have featured well-known American and foreign athletes such as Michael Jordan. Primary users of the facility are Anatolia’s 2,000 students, mainly Greek with considerable portion coming from the southeastern Balkans. A fast growing number, presently more than 100, of study abroad students from the U.S. attend Anatolia and use the facility as well. Numerous athletic tournaments are held each year in the gym, which attract a large number of fans and visitors from around the region.
