Would you like to participate in a documentary?

The U.S. Consulate General in Thessaloniki is preparing a documentary about the impact of the Marshall Plan in Northern Greece.

For that reason we are seeking people who would like to share their stories or memories of how the Marshall Plan affected them, their families or their communities.

The Marshall Plan was the United States’ plan for rebuilding and creating a stronger foundation for the allied countries of Europe. The initiative was named for United States Secretary of State George Marshall and was largely the creation of State Department Officials, especially William L. Clayton and George F. Kennan.

The plan was in operation for four years beginning in July 1947. During that period the United States gave some $13 billion of economic and technical assistance to help the recovery of the European countries that had joined the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The United States gave Greece about $700 million of aid through the Marshall Plan.

As part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the announcement of the Marshall Plan, the U.S. Consulate is videotaping testimonies of people who would like to share their stories about how they (or their family or community) benefited from the Plan, especially in northern Greece. The videotape will record the testimonials for posterity, and serve as a reference for students, teachers, media, and others interested in the history of Greece and Greek-American relations after World War II. Participation is strictly voluntary and will involve no remuneration or other compensation – other than the satisfaction of participating in a unique historical endeavor!

If you, or a family member or friend has a story to tell, please contact us at the U.S. Consulate General in Thessaloniki, or send us a DVD, CD-ROM or zip-file with your video-taped testimony. Individual testimonials should not be more than five minutes in duration. We cannot guarantee that all testimonials will be included in our final product but we will include as many as possible..

For interview appointments please call: 2310-242905 ext. 3107 and 3119. We will make an appointment for you to come and be filmed.

Thank you in advance for your interest and participation!
