Consulate Supports Local NGO’s Fight Against Cancer
On June 18, ConGen Thessaloniki hosted a seminar about the work of the northern Greece-based NGO Ormylia Foundation, which provides free breast cancer screening and counseling to women in remote provincial areas of northern Greece who otherwise might not have access to such medical services. CG Yee presented a plaque to the Foundation, recognizing its contributions to the fight against cancer and to Greek – American cooperation. The Ormylia Foundation is partly funded by U.S. donors such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Ormylia’s non-profit clinic uses state of the art diagnostic equipment donated by American and European companies. The Foundation hosts training seminars featuring prominent U.S. physicians and researchers, who also work with the Foundation to perform training and set up similar clinics in third world countries.
