In a symposium organized by the Secretariat General of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in cooperation with the American Consulate General, Dr. Thomas Crisman, Director of the Center for Wetlands and Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida and currently in Greece under Fulbright program “Aegean Initiative”, and George Zalidis, Assoc. Prof. in the School of Agriculture, Laboratory of Applied Soil Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, discussed the issue of “Incorporating Agriculture into Conservation Schemes for Mediterranean Aquatic Ecosystems” and “Agro-environmental Policy and Wetland Conservation” respectively for an audience of local officials and academics.

On Monday, December 1, 2003, the Association of American Universities Graduates, the Schools of Agriculture and Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in cooperation with the American Consulate General and the Fulbright Program co-organized a panel discussion, coordinated by Dr. Myrto Pyrovetsi, Associate Professor, Department of Ecology, School of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Dr. Crisman spoke about “Incorporating Agriculture into Conservation Schemes for Mediterranean Aquatic Ecosystems: The Koronia Case” and Dr. Zalidis on “Monitoring Agri-Environmental Measures in Wetland Areas: Status and Trends” for an audience of several academics and students and local government officials.
